Okay, I am working on stuff for New York City Comic Con, so...
I have reserved 1 room with 2 full size beds at the Holiday Inn Express. (address is: 343 West 39th Street; New York, NY 10013 ; It's only about 2 blocks from the convention center) I chose this place because of it's proximity, and it has free hot breakfast (which will save us a lot with the food prices in NYC), it has free wi-fi, and it was JUST built last year, so you know it's nice and new.
So far there are 6 people coming: Me, Jennifer, Jem, Robina, Jordan, & Jordan's friend, Claire(I think that's her name). That leaves 2 people sleeping on the floor. I, for one, think that the young'uns should sleep on the floor (Jordan & Claire) Does that sound okay to you guys? However, I'd just like to tell ya'll that the hotel rooms in NYC are *VERY* small. So if someone is sleeping on the floor, they will be expected to put away their bedding every morning so there is room to walk. Also, I think it only fair that the people who have to sleep on the floor don't have to pay as much as those who get to sleep in the bed. Finally, 2 of the 4 Bed spots are mine and Jennifer's, as Jennifer has a bad back, and I don't want anyone else sleeping with my honey.
Otherwise, we have the option of getting a 2nd hotel room, with a Queen bed, for 2 of the people. Let me know what you all think.
I am also assuming that Jem, Robina, Jordan, & Claire are coming on Thursday, October 7th and leaving Sunday, October 10th. If this is different, let me know and I will adjust the estimates.
Here is the price breakdown:
1 Room -
+ TOTAL for 3 nights @ $309 a night: $927
* Amount owed (each) for people sleeping in Beds(4) - $162.50
* Amount owed (each) for people sleeping on floor(2) - $138.50
2 Rooms -
+ TOTAL for 4 person room for 3 nights @ $309 a night: $927
* Amount owed (each) for people staying in 4 person room(4) - $231.75
+ TOTAL for 2 person room for 3 nights @ $269 a night: $807
* Amount owed (each) for people staying in 2 person room(2) - $403.50
Of course, all these prices are APPROXIMATE, because I wont know what the taxes and fees are until about 2 weeks before the convention. (silly website!) But I will get you the exact prices at that time. Until then, figure about an extra $30 each for taxes and such.
As you can see, it'd be much cheaper to do it with 1 room instead of 2. HOWEVER, since this will be reserved on my credit card, there will be a FEW rules:
1. No smoking in the room. (and yes, it IS a non-smoking room)
2. NO underage consumption of alcohol in the room! I don't know if you drink or not, Jordan, but since you are not 21 (and will not be by the time con rolls around) you will not be allowed to drink alcohol in the room (and I'd prefer that you didn't do it in my presence, as it triggers the Leo side of me and you are likely to get a lengthy lecture ;) The same applies to Claire if she is under 21.
3. NO CON LOVE IN THE ROOM! - There will be no sex in the room! I don't care if you find your soulmate at the convention, if I find out that you brought him/her back to the hotel room to make whoopie, you will be finding a different place to sleep for the rest of your stay (Of course, this rule is null and void if by some strange dimensional slip, we meet the REAL ninja turtles. In that case, I'm all for the orgy! ;D)
4. Curfew is midnight. If you are not in the room by midnight, PLEASE let someone know where you are and when you will back. Otherwise, I WILL be deadbolting the door and I will not let you in. (This rule doesn't apply, OBVIOUSLY, if all 6 of us are out together past midnight somewhere)
If you can't agree with these rules, PLEASE let me know and we'll make alternate arrangements. Sorry I have to be a hard ass about this, but I'd rather lay down the law BEFORE anyone has any issues. Sorry, I've had bad roommates before. I'm sure none of you will be annoying (at least I hope so)
NYAR! ;D I AM EXCITED FOR CON! XD

Date: 2010-01-22 04:08 pm (UTC)I was actually thinking you would want to park somewhere off-island and take a taxi or a shuttle to the hotel. What you COULD do is go to one of the airports and park, then take a taxi from the airport to the hotel. It says taxi costs(1 way) are $35 from Laguardia, $50 from Newark, and $45 from JFK, so you can pick whichever one is easiest to get to (or has cheapest parking). Or you could try googling a park-and-fly service, they usually are cheaper and have a free shuttle service to the airport where you could easily pick up a taxi.
Jenn and I might end up driving there, and leaving our car in a parking place, then taxi-ing in too. (depends on if I can catch an airfare or an amway sale between now and October) So you CAN wait until I do my research and then I will pass on the info I find (I also know a few people who LIVE in the NYC-suburbs area, so I *MIGHT* try to bargain with them and see if they'll allow me to park in thier driveway, but that's a HUGE if)
I mean it when I say driving in NYC is a beech. I feel like I take my life in my hands even when I'm riding in a taxi. :p
The con is over at 5PM on sunday. I think it'd be cool if ya'll stayed with us sunday night too (plus then you dont have to drive home in the dark) Also, then if you *DO* park at the airport, all 6 of us can share a ride to the airport on Monday morning :)

Date: 2010-01-22 10:22 pm (UTC)The next cheapest is one of the Icon Parking Systems garages - the one on 30 Street, between 8th and 9th Aves. It's a nine-block walk (metro only cuts a couple blocks off), but they guarantee space and the rate. It's $102 for 2 PM Thurs through 11:00 AM Sun, not including tax - so $120.61 total. There are several other garages by this company, but it's over ten dollars more by the time you get within two blocks of the hotel. Online here: http://www.iconparkingsystems.com/index.asp#
I have to say, if they tax everything at 18 percent, no wonder prices are so high. That's nearly triple sales-and-services tax in my county, and over twice the highest in my state.
Citidex has a list of parking lots in NYC ( http://www.citidex.com/696.htm ), and the NYC government made a map of parking places ( http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcp/html/parking/getmap.shtml?zoomifyImagePath=..%2F..%2Fgif%2Fparking%2Fsite&zoomifyX=0.0336570851610079&zoomifyY=0.0254589355451197&zoomifyZoom=80 ). By the time I found them, tho, I had already checked out all the nearby garages, and most of the parking lots do not have websites.
It would probably be worth calling for rates on the parking lots (several of the reviews have said $15-$20, and the lowest I've found on garages is mid-$20s), but I'd like to wait until closer to time - I don't want to go somewhere thinking it's cheap and have them have upped rates between now and Oct.
Hmm. They have park-and-rides around here; I'll look for either a park-and-fly or a park-and-ride. :)
The Metro may be cheaper than a taxi. There's both a Metro and a bus stop near our hotel.
I need to check with Jordan and find out when she needs to be home. If she needs to be back Sun, I'll probably just call my brother and see if Robina and I can crash there on the way home. If not, I'll check with my boss and see if I can get Monday off too.
ETA: Park and Ride in New Jersey looks pretty cheap, but I'm having trouble finding out if they're overnight spots or not.
