Awesome stuff! But yeah I reckon He doesn't talk much, but when he does it's smart and poetic needs to be edited to something like;

He doesn't talk much, but when he does he can be smart and surprisingly poetic, on occasion. Rarely. Once you get past the bluff, bluster and curses.
